ok, I want opinions on this cam that was recommended to me for my engine by comp cams. I have a 351 Cleveland with 2bbl heads, not the 4bbl heads. I have a 4bbl intake and carb. I have long tube headers. I have an electric fan also so no drag from a mechanical one. What do you think of this one? I would be getting the kit version of this which includes the CAM, LIFTERS, and new TIMING CHAIN and GEARS.

Without knowing much about the Cleveland in general compared to the Windsors, I'd say that looks just about perfect for a very streetable cam.

Post the specs of the one or two kits right above it though, the part about the stock converter somewhat makes me think you could get more performance with some higher (numerically) gears and a good shift kit & stall converter.

The 268 cam you posted the specs for, is that a Comp Cams Extreme energy cam? If so, that's exactly the cam I have in the Impala. Nice lumpy idle, yet enough streetability to run well.

Here are the 5 pictures of the two sheets of CAMs that they offerfor the cleveland engine. Dan this is the other thing I was trying to remember last night for MODS over the winter.

I like the extreme energy line because they open and close the valves faster. I'd stay somewhat close to "stock" converter, but maybe bump it up a bit... the Extreme line is what I have in the 'vert and the Impala.. :)

I think it's in the middle of the Magnum and the Race cams.

So which one would you go with. I also have 4.10 or 4.11 gears which ever is in an old 9" rear end.

Wow, now THAT's some helpful info. :)

Dave, I'd go with one of these two.

Another thing is to CALL Comp Cams. I did that and the tech spent a lot of time on the phone with me BS'ing about my car and told me what would work best with my intake, carb, etc. That's what they are there for.

LOTS!!!

I know that when I get new heads that I will need a different CAM at that time, but I want something for right now that will be better for my stock 2bbl heads, headers, carb, intake, and tranny, and rear end combo that I currently have. I know that almost anything is better then stock. I also know that at a later date I will be putting in a big 3500 or 4000 stall when I get the new heads. That is at least a year off unless I can somehow find the money to spend on the car before then. With the new heads I am hoping for a minimum of 450. with the current heads I want to at least hit 300.

I am at 205.2 right now.

Dave, a 3500 or 4000 stall?!! That seems awfully high for a street driven car methinks... the 'vert I'm building (NOT street friendly) is only getting a 3000 and that's high enough I think!! And that's already pushing 450hp!

with your future plans in mind, i think i would go with the xe274h. the only thing to watch for is if you have enough room so your valvesprings don't bind. .562/ .565 is a goodly amount of lift.
