View Full Version : Ford vs Chevy Shootout @ Rockfalls

Thought I'd start this ball rolling...
Last season we talked about getting folks together to rent Rock Falls one day (weekend) and have our own Ford vs. Chevy shootout.
The Vette and Lightning guys got together a few times last season...and we are all car guys (it was actually fun) so this isn't anything personal...just a fun day for bragging rights and talking smack to each other later  .
Now's the time to get our act together and find out if we should go for it or not....
Who would be a good organizer if there is interest here on the board?
Welcome to your new board btw!!!

I could help organize if needed. I think this would be a good idea.

I would definately be interested in this event. Myself and a few other Lightning owners went to Rock Falls with Minnesota White and a few other Vette guys on a couple of occasions last year and they are a great bunch of guys.
I sent Jennifer at Rock Falls an e-mail this morning inquiring about cost and dates that might be available. I will post what I find out.

Dude!!! That's what I like to hear! All over it like a wet t-shirt!
Sounds great...a casual poll of our little group had a dozen jump up right away...once we advertise with the local clubs...I think 50+ cars would be a piece of cake.
Let me know what you hear!

You can count on a Yellow nanner as well, there are a couple Mystics in this club that need a bowtie education. ;););) (As long as the date doesn't conflict with my other passion)

I just got off the phone with Jennifer @ Rock Falls and here's the info on renting Rock Falls for a day for a Ford vs Chevy Shootout -
Track Rental - about $5000 !!!!!! This covers insurance, EMTs', track staff, etc. Do the math and we would need 100 cars to get the cost to $50 person.
I thought I saw on another board that the cost was closer to $2500 day, but $5000 was what I was quoted. Maybe if someone has a connection, we could get the cost knocked down a little. Maybe Casey could get us a better rate, since he rented it out last year for his wedding.
The available dates are :
July 17
July 18
August 14
August 15
Jennifer said that they could put a special program together for us on one of the Test and Tune days. There would still be other cars running, but we would essentially have our own "class". She said that they average 65-100 cars on the $69 T&T days. They have anywhere from 150-350 cars on the $35 Fun Days. She said we could negotiate a better rate than the standard $69 normal T&T rate.
Thoughts or opinions???????????

 Good Work Jeff, As long as they prep the track I personally wouldnt mind shelling out even $75. Also maybe if the Chebby guys didnt mind we could check with Cedar Falls or Tri State.

I'd be up for $75 as long as I got a few runs in... Cedar Falls would be a cheaper/better option methinks?

Im with Jason and Dan, Cedar Falls and they let you make money on the event too. If the Vette Club goes 1/2 with us on track rental then each club pays have and takes the money from there members. So if the Vette guys can get a 100 cars, it gives there club the ability to make money, Same goes for SVTOA TC. Im sure with a track rental each side could easily get 50 vehicles.

Headcount we did on here last fall yielded a whopping 8....

Yep...agreed.
People will waffle on the "oooh geez...it depends on the weekend and if my wife will let me...it sounds good but I dunno" bla bla bla...(too many people that look at their nads on the dresser each morning).
Even if the track said, "we'll do a special day and it will just be you guys at regular price" we probably wouldn't get enough headcount.
Like I posted in the other forum...the Corvette clubs are run by a bunch of old men that disagree on anything that they haven't done for the past 20 years...so getting them to pony up the dough to rent the track is a stretch.
If we solidify a date, and really push with the clubs in town...we could probably get 35 Vettes for sure (sad as there are probably 600 cars in town at least) with 3/4 of them coming from Car-vette.com forum.
Probably between the Vette guys, SVT, TCStangs, and any others we could tap...75 is probably the max cars.
I could be wrong! I hope I am!

Dan N & MinnesotaWhite I have spoken to Cedar Falls and they have presented me with a offer I think both clubs would be silly to pass up. It will be very affordable and it will strictly be our clubs only. Can the both of you please send me a phone number and time that is good to contact you at.

OK, John called me yesterday and we talked about this in great detail. I will work to organize this event and I think John contacted MinnesotaWhite to see if the GM guys would be in.
I'm going to start a new thread with this information and I will also contact the Cedar Falls rep.
What I need to know is what people think we should do for bringing in more traffic. Should we invite ONLY the 'vette club or add some others?
Look for more details as soon as I can get them.
Thanks to John for working on this event, he got the ball rolling.

Dang son...that was fast!
I'm betting with 1 month notice we could probably get 35 Vettes together...plus we have a few autocrossers that would come out for the event too...
I know off our little forum we have a dozen easy...
