Some of you asked about which pads to use with the PC 7424. I found a good guide that lists the pads and their uses. (This is just a general guide and relates to Lake Country pads. Other brands may use a different "color code")

Many varieties to choose from:

Yellow Cutting - Use this pad to apply compounds or polishes to remove severe oxidation, swirls, and scratches. It is the most aggressive and should only be used on oxidized and older finishes. Always follow this pad with an orange pad and a fine polish and then a white pad to refine the paint until it is smooth.

Orange Light Cutting - Firm, high density foam for scratch and defect removal. Use this pad with polishes and swirl removers. It’s an all around pad that will work on most light to moderate imperfections.

White Polishing - Less dense foam formula for the application of waxes, micro-fine polishes and sealants. This pad has very light cutting power so its perfect for pre-wax cleaners.

Green Cutting/Polishing - Use this foam to apply one-step cleaner waxes. It is a balance of polishing and finishing that is perfect for all-in-one product application.

Gray Finishing - Composition is firm enough to withstand added pressure during final finishing to remove buffer swirls. It has no cut and will apply thin, even coats of waxes, sealants, and glazes.

Blue Finessing - Flat pad has soft composition for applying glaze, finishing polish, sealants, and liquid waxes. Flat pad provides full contact with paint surface to minimize the pressure applied by the user.

Red UltraSoft - This soft, imported foam is ideal for applying the final coat of wax or sealant. The foam works especially well when applying liquid waxes or sealants because it is firm enough to keep the majority of the product on the paint, rather than soaking it up. The red foam has no cut or cleaning ability.

So many choices! We'll narrow it down for you. Most vehicles with moderate swirls will require these items: an orange light cutting foam pad, a white polishing foam pad, a gray finishing foam pad, the 5 inch Flexible Dual Action Backing Plate and of course, the Porter Cable 7424.

Tips:
The polisher will do the work for you. There's no need to apply a lot of pressure.

Pad and product selection is not an exact science. The severity of the imperfections, the cut of the pad, and the aggressiveness of the product all factor into the final results. Don't be afraid to experiment.

Start with the least aggressive method first. Go to a more aggressive pad or polish only if necessary

I hope this helps and please let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Randy

Buffing pads & assorted other items arrived today! Randy & I will be working to put a few different kits together or of course you can order individually as well. We have backing plates for the Porter Cable 7424 as well as for some of the rotary machines for those of you that use those.

In addition to buffing pads, we also brought in some new foam applicators & we are also trying out some small brushes & foam tip cleaning sticks and if they work out well we'll order more.

Picture below was just from my phone but should give you some idea on what we have. Let us know what you need! Note that the 4" pads will be sold individually, I just chose not to take them out of the bag for the picture.

The pad in this picture is the one that comes with the PC7424. It is not velcro, but just a one piece unit that screws into the machine.

This brings up a good point. TTM is run out of the office of my other company so it can be confusing when people just drop in because it says "Robert Marshall Company". I'll see what I can do to get some sort of sign up and also update the website per the suggestion of someone on this forum.

At any rate, I should be around a good share of the day today but will be out for awhile. Please give a call at 651-203-8009 and if you get voice mail, either leave a message or push 1 and it will transfer you to my cell phone.

How much for the Ultimate Detailing Kit minus the Car Wash and Micro-Fiber Towels?

Here's the thing... We could put a hundred different kits together in an effort to try to give everyone specifically what they want in a kit. That isn't practical for us nor is making substitutions because we will lose track of what we have sold.

So, you can look at it a couple of different ways. You can figure that you are getting the towels & car wash for free along with some other items since it is over $50 off of the individual prices, or you can start with the "Polisher Kit" and just add what you want. I checked it quick & with what you are asking for, it would be about $281 if I did my math correctly. And if you purchased everything individually (without the towels & car wash) it would be about $317.

Now if a number of you guys all tell me that the Ultimate Kit would be perfect without the microfiber towels & car wash, then I'll go ahead and make that change. Otherwise, I don't really want to start getting into making a bunch of changes. I hope that you understand.
