View Full Version : Caravan To Gingerman Friday!

OK, I'm heading up the caravan to Gingerman for Friday, September 17th. We are planning on leaving town in the morning on Friday, I'm hoping to be able to sneak out of town after traffic dies down (9-10ish). The route will likely be:

94 all the way to 90 to Madison. Then under the lakes and up to South Haven, MI. Supposedly from the middle of the cities to South Haven, MI is about 8 hours. If we leave at 10AM, that's getting us to Michigan about 8pm with stops for lunches, gas fills, and ample potty breaks.

We DO lose an hour going to MI, so that will suck too, so we need to make sure we're getting there before the camping closes..

Brian G - does the track "close" like MAM did? Do we need to get there any specific time to set up tents (insert pitch a tent joke here) before sleepytime?

Who's with me and would you all like to meet at my house or somewhere central?

Brian G & Doug, what time/where are you leaving from? Really early?

I'm with you Dan! Maybe we can meet somewhere, your house is back-tracking a little for me, but if that works best I can swing over, not a big deal.

Sounds like fun!

Unforunatly I will not know what I am doing until the last minute, but no matter what I won't be leaving as late as you guys so it's a rather mute point.

Might I recommend you go thru chicago via 90 to 290 to 294 to 80/294. I went this way in July to Gingerman and it went pretty well. You will be hitting friday evening rush hour traffic, so keep that in mind. If I leave friday am, I will be leaving really early in order to avoid the rush. I am leaning twards just driving the Z06 down rather than pulling the trailer, but who knows with me, I am very indecisive. :(

I believe the track closes it's gates about 9 or 10 pm local time. (yes, you do loose an hour)

I havn't talked to Doug about this, so I am not sure what he has planned. Doug?

I'm planning on leaving earlier than that as I'm going to be driving on track friday evening. (weather permitting)

However if the weather there is bad, I may leave later.

You leaving friday am then?

So far, it looks good. Although, hurricane Ivan may have something to say about it: http://www.w3.weather.com/weather/local/USMI0790

6a.m. works for me, better to not go by Chicago during rush hour. I'm sure that will be ok with Jackie, too.

Ok I spoke to Brian today. Since I'm not far from his place we're departing at 5:30 am. We're both running friday evening and brian has some setup to do for registration, so he needs to be there in the afternoon. In addition to wanting to bleed brakes/rotate tires etc... It'll likely be somewhat of a "death march" to get there (hitting drive thru's and rest areas for potty breaks etc..).

Dan/Pam/(John?) if that doesn't appeal to you I understand. However if you want to hook up and caravan over we could meet you guys where 94 & 90 intersects at say 7:30?

What do you guys think?

I'm game....what about it Dan? Jackie? Is that intersection south of Eau Claire, closer to LaCrosse?? Not sure. I know it takes about 90 minutes to get to EauClaire from my house (Forest Lake).

Hi all,
Doug and I figured it would be faster to meet at the 90/94 merge in wisconsin considering the direction you all will be coming from.

Like Doug mentioned, we want to run friday evening, but I am going to be subject to how things are going as far as registration and tech goes.

Pam, Jackie, Dan,
If you guys (gals) need me to check over your cars, I would be more than happy to do it at the track. I am hoping to get to the track at 2-3 pm (3-4 local time) in order to change brake pads and cget setup. I am planning at this time to just drive the vette over, so we should be able to make pretty decent time.

If anyone has any questions, either post here or give me a call.

Pam,
I believe 90/94 come together about 70 or so miles south of Eau Claire, so figure another hour. It will take Doug and I about 8 hrs to get to it, so figure 7:30 am.

There is a town called Mauston thats about 20 miles south of the intersection that we could stop and eat breakfest at (and meet up at). We could fill up with gas, empty our bladders, and get some grub to eat so we don't have to stop again untill we get past Chicago?

Hi Brian,
Yes, I will need you to check out my car, thanks in advance for that. Dan put the new Hawk brake pads on the fronts so all set to go.

I'm thinking it may take us a good 2 hours to get to that interchange. I go down that way all the time (I'm a cheesehead) but I always exit the freeway south of EauClaire at Hwy. 10. I'm sure we'll get it worked out.

Thanks!

Since I am not taking my trailer (to sleep in), yep, we decided that living in luxury was needed. ;)

We plan to leave town around 5:15 from Woodbury, so I imagine that is about 2 hours from Tomah, WI, which is where 94 and 90 intersect? Brian/Doug, do you want to meet in Tomah around 7:30 or would you like to just skip to Mauston at 8?

I say we meet at Mauston. When you take the exit off 90/94 at mauston and go to the stop sign, take a right. There is a truck stop/cafe right there on your right. We can top off the tanks, grap breakfest, and head out right from there. Doug and I should be there around 7:30 to 7:45 am.

Maybe give a call when you get close to the 90/94 split and see where we are.

Brian

PS: Does that work for you guys?

Well we found out from Guido that we get a group discount on escorts when we buy in bulk, and they all wouldn't fit in a tent. :drink:

(nahhh, it's really just more convenient this weekend)
