I think so, but he said it's gonna cost him as much to fix it as he owes on the thing. Would you like to talk to him???

Well I'm back in the market... my deal fell thru lastnight. So why not?
Chris... do you really want it? I'd be feeding off of you on the 3.0 swap so... ?

No, I don't have the room for another project car. I think Brandie would kill me.
If you want to get some info on that 3L swap check out the 3L sections on each of these sites and read through the FAQ's for info on the engine swap:
www.fastcougar.com/forums
www.contour.org
I'd be more than happy to help out with the swap. You are probably going to want to go with the 3L block and 3L heads vs the 3L block and 2.5L heads I have because of heat issues and drivability. Thats what I put in Brandie's SVT and its perfect.
If you want to stick with the SVT upper and lower manifolds like we did with Brandie's you will need to get someone to port those heads out (I did my own) to mate up with the upper and lower manifolds and have a shop weld in some aluminum in the original injector spots (I paid $25 for the welding). Its really not that big of a deal. Just get a gasket and mark off all the material you need to cut out and then make sure you angle the new injector spots so they spray into both ports. Otherwise if you try to use the 3L upper and 3L lowers you have to deal with fabbing up a fuel rail and vacuum lines. I've personally never gone that route. The SVT upper and lower give the car a better top end where the 3L upper and lower give the car more mid range power and drops off up top.
check out the second page on my car domain website for a little more info: www.cardomain.com/id/blackcoog
Also try to find a 3L engine on www.car-parts.com (any 3.0L 2000-2002). They did make 3L engines that had split port heads so you wouldn't have to do any head porting but the pistons in those engines are known to go bad so most people stay away from them. Those would be 1998-1999 3L's. Look for the lowest miles and then go by cheapest price until you find something decent. You shouldn't have to pay more than $500-700 for the engine. I usually look for something close so I can go and pick it up and not get hit with the shipping charges.

Chirs, thanx for all the info! I'll check it out more when I get a chance.
One thing I don't really have is a spot to do this swap at... and I'm not sure as of yet if I'll have the time. I start my last year of school in a couple weeks and I know time will be tight this year.
I was also considering a V8SHO... but there would be time taken out for that too since the cams would have to be welded right away (that's their issue), and I dunno if I'd have time to get that done.
I'll do some looking into this though. Thanks.

Check this out TIM:
http://www.fastcougar.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=6&threadid=106540
Get a new front end (bumper, radiator, and lights if needed) and fix the AC and your good to go. He is kind of vague on what was wrong though so wait until pix are up. Pick a cougar up for $1500. Fix the front end and AC for probably much less than a grand, drop a 3L in it for $700 and you'd have a pretty nice car for daily driving.

Not sure I trust 'em saying it's not a salvage title... I don't see how it couldn't be. I got burned on that once before on my ol' GSX.
The car was fine, but it was sold to me stating that the title was clear, and it wasn't.
Also... not sure how I'd find time to do a jaunt like that to pick something up. That also hinders me on a SHO purchase right now cuz I'd want to drive it out of state to get the cam gear welded. I can weld just fine, but there is other things that are done at the same time this procedure is done that I'm not familiar with.
I do appreciate you looking for me and keeping me in mind however, thanks!
Got room for another 3L swap at your place??

I have room for about 1 day on Thursdays when Brandie goes to school. :) I'm always looking for cheap contour/cougars to fix up anyway. I made lots of money of the one I fixed up and Brandie's car was suppose to be another one but she wanted to keep it :(.

I'm getting more motivated again. One of the vehicles that is in the "fleet" (lol) that I maintain has just been sold... so I don't have the headache of it anymore, and have more space. Still don't know how I'd have time to obtain one out of state however... So Dads97's son just might get that call :)
You're the man on this swap though... I'm no hard-line mechanic... so I'd be needing as much help from you as possible (I wouldn't expect your time to be free either).
You let me know what you think... either way it doesn't matter to me. There's all kinds of cars out there... but my daily prolly wouldn't be a Ford, much less another needed SVT then. It'd end up being another GM prolly

Yes, I would be mad. I think that we need to get rid of a car before we buy another one to fix up. Preferrably I would like the next car to be pink for me of course. Hehehehe
