View Full Version : Trade in the Jag

I recently talked to a dealer that would accept my car with a bonded title as a trade. I want to get rid of this thing because I wouldn't be able to sell it to a person. What should I trade it for that I wouldn't have to pay very much extra for? Lets say I get $20K for the Jag, its worth more but you dont get what it is worth with trade-ins. I'm not really a "mustang guy" so I'm not sure if I want to go that route. Don't get me wrong I love your cars but you know I'm more of a "ricer" as most would put it. I'm not sure if I would actually want to keep the car or just sell it to get my money and be done with it and pay off my bills. I do need a winter car though. I can't drive the cougar in the winter as it is right now and I'm just asking for something else to go wrong if I do since the car is cursed. Will dealerships buy the car from me and give me cash or will I have to do a trade? I could look for the 3L jag and upgrade which would be f'ing sweet since they have 240hp and are pretty quick. Too bad its almost impossible to find a 3L jaguar with a manual. There must have been less than a couple hundred manual X-types made.

Chris you really should buy a ranger great resale on those things. but seriously not a bad truck for the money, also i believe tousley will pay cash for certain cars without a trade. You could call travis smith that is who i know well and he can tell you for sure. Lastly if I had money to burn I would be thrownin down on a either an F-150 lariat or a dodge yes i said dodge magnum with that not so real hemi p.o.s. love the look of that car alot. Ranger?? Meh... Got time to be at the dealer with it once a month??
Chris ~ what exactly do you mean by "bonded" title?

Bought the car from a dealer and never got a title. The car just doesn't have a title. Police checked on my car and the title is clear and the car is not stolen. A bonded title is more like a temporary title that needs to be renewed each year.

Tim why do ride me so. The Ranger actually is the top rated mid sized p.u. in the market again. Most would tell you that they have had little to no problems with them, sorry to disapoint you. Just ask dirty how she likes hers. I often find myself having to sign dashboards and what have you when people find out that i build them. :drink:

Atleast up to the previous body style... but as far as I know (and I'm not saying I'm not wrong), the motor is unchanged?? But fortunately for the fine builders of the Ford trucks, they keep gettin' sold! Build awn my brotha... build awn.

Test drove an EVO because I wanted to see what the hype was all about. Nice car, pretty fast (not as fast as I thought it would be), inside is sparse, exterior is not that great and it has a shopping cart wing.
If I were to trade up for that I would end up spending about another 7 or 8 grand atleast. The engine/trans in the Jaguar are very similar to the Cougar. Let say I turbo the Jag for 5 grand. I have a turbo Jaguar which is much better than a turbo import. Sounds like more fun and cheaper. I'm getting the turbo guys my computer information so they can find a way to tune the computer for the Jag and they will let me know if its possible. They would love to do it though. It would open up a new market for them. Not sure how many Jag owners would do it but its always a nice option and cheaper than paying 8 grand extra for the 3L option. He said 300 wheel hp should be no problem but then there is reliablility of those drivetrain parts. The cougar/contours are running those numbers without much trouble. A few broken axels here and there but thats from the front wheel drive hop. I'm just dreaming I guess but it would be sweet. We'll see...

I'd pick a Dodge Neon SRT4. What a package for $20k. I know it's not foriegn, but I've never driven anything foreign performance...

The RX8 in Road and Track is averaging 15mpg now after a few thousand miles. Lol no torque no gas and still not fast.
I would love a new BMW M3.

Chris, Congrats on the engagement. Doesnt the Jag have the same computer that the T-Bird/LS/SVT Focus have ? If so, SCT is about to release the tuning software for these vehicles. Im sure they are in the same family and it would give you total control when tuning.

Depends on what you're talking about. Other than a straight line the cobra will have it's ass handed to it in most categories by an awful lot of cars. But again the new Mustang I would hope will be a different ball of wax so to speak.

I guess in my quest for the perfect answer I realize many things about cars perfomance etc. but the one thing i don't get is these cars that half less than zero style and absolutely no appeal to me but yet kids flock to these lumps of giraffe ****, like their gods of the auto market. What gives I do not in any time in my life want to get a car other than a vette, camaro, trans am, or grand national. then I got a job at ford and then turned to the mustang, which i might add is not the worst car for the money either. I read many publications that have all but told me for the money the cobra is probally the best perfomance value on the planet. Now if that means all around which i assume it does tells me one thing why aren't there more kiddies lusting over these instead of the import stuff?????? Or am I just not seeing it. Sorry for the rant but this kind of stuff really gets under my skin. be cool

My best guess is for the money, most of the 16-24 year old can afford the imports easier than the mustang. They get much better gas mileage and insurance is cheaper. (believe it or not, a cobra would be another $1200/year for me over the Z06).
Another thing is in Minnesota, it's much easier to drive a FWD car year round than a mustang. (alot of people don't have more than one car)
And if you haven't driven one, 200-225hp in cars that small are alot of fun to drive.
