For what it's worth - I saw a similar post up on Stangnet where they have over 1100 posts re: TREMEC 3650 problems - It's been running as stick in the 4.6 forum over there for over a year.
Same number, including a couple of references indicating that dealers acknowledged the TSB, ordered parts and scheduled upgrades.
Hope Tommy is able to confirm and give us some idea of what the policy will be on upgrading the 3650's. Hopefully, they won't have to break to get the upgrades!!!!
Dave
BTW - upgrade involves installing synchros and new 1-2 gearsets along with some shifter fork upgrades.

Great timing! I went out and got the bugs off of the car today and took it for a little spin. Guess what???? TOB is talking to me - Loud! Still under warranty, should be fixed right? I'll have 'em address the difficult shifting at the same time.

Rick same TSB thats been out for a while now. I have it printed up for Dave, I just forgot all about it until this post.
Brian- You saved your Dad the 28 Grand by going to school a year early but you also picked the most expensive skool in the State to attend:grin: What are you going for anyway ?

you are correct on it being the most expensive in the state but at 22 the U of M isnt far behind. I was going for actuarial science but have changed it to utilize St. Thomas's awesome buisness program to general buisness and mechanical engineering

The TOB is the throw-out bearing. It gets noisy and can cause serious problems with the clutch and the input shaft assembly on the transmission if it scores or seizes.
The TSB is a technical service bulletin relating to upgrading the 1-2 gearset, synchros, and shift forks in the 3650 transmissions that are supplied since mid-year of 2001 on all GT's and Cobras.
We'll know soon, as I took mine in on Monday to American based on the TSB info and they agreed to do the rebuild on the tranny under the extended warranty. Should have it back before the end of the week and will let you all know how it goes.
Until I find out whether I'm going to have the car back, I was hesitant to commit to the St Peter car show thing. If I have it, I'll probably try to make that show.

Rick,
My TOB was replaced when they changed the clutch in June, just before the American show. It had been "noisy" off and on (mostly on) for about 25K miles. I had taken it in several times and noted the noise, but besides changing the serpentine belt, the mechanics claimed it wasn't "out of spec".
When Steve finally decided to check it out, he noticed the roughness in the pedal and "dinked" the clutch on that. I had to pay for the disc and the $50 deductible for the Premium Care, but the rest was under warranty. I have read some real horror stories related to TOB failures, so you need to get it checked and on record as a complaint before anything happens.
My guess is that you could do what I did - called American with the TSB info and requested that since I had complained of some tranny "issues" (grinding and hard engagement) previously, I would like to have it fixed before anything serious occurred. The S/A (Ken) checked with the Service Manager (Holly) and they called back to have me bring the car in for the upgrade on Monday. As of now, I expect to get it back before the end of the week. Will let you know how everything turns out then.
If you do get them to do the TSB work - getting a new TOB is a slam dunk. A $28 part and all the labor is part of the work required to do the TSB anyway, so it should be easy to convince them to do it as a preventative measure, given that it is already making noise.

Hey,
What can I say - 6 months ago I couldn't even spell inguneer, now I are one!
I should hear something tomorrow - they were waiting on some parts due to arrive sometime today and thought it would probably be done sometime late tomorrow. I'll keep all posted.

Or at least start complaining about the TOB making noise and the difficult shifting. Mine hasn't made a sound since I posted about it...go figure:shrug:
