As most of you know I own an 04 Mach1. I love the car, and a generous member of the club, that is a Ford employee, got me an x-plan. So with 9 miles on it I paid 25,400. I sold my very nice 93 teal Cobra. And put the money down on this car, and have less than $250 a month payment. The car is fairly quick and will run with a 400rwhp Cobra. But as you know, that is just scratching the surface of the Terminator. I made the mistake of going on svtperformance.com and looking at 03-04 Cobra's for sale. For the price I paid for my car in May of 2004, I could have gotten a decent used 03 Cobra now. So looking at those cars gave me a serious case of that darn Cobra fever. I'm sure some of you know what Cobra fever is,[V.M.] Anyway, that is hindsite. I have nice plans for my car this year, and 11's could be in site, which is fairly fast, but I am going through a little Terminator envy right now. I'll survive, But watch out! The Cobra fever just might bite you next!

No I'm not dumping my car for a Cobra. I'm barely hanging on to it as it is.

Never look back! Start saving now ond in 4 years you will be able to get a ShelbyGT500CobraSVT for $30,000. That will be a steal.

Well historically not many cars have been able to debut and their values go up since that.

Honestly I can come up with a few but you might not agree! :googleeye
Do Ferrari's count or any exotic?
How many yrs can go buy before you can start the residual raise?

PRODUCTION CAR. Exotics or one off's might, but name one production car whose value doesn't drop the second you drive it off the lot. Sure 20 or 30 years from now it might be worth more, but that's not what we are talking about.

I can still think of a few cars that were getting more than the sticker price in just the last few yrs. Doesn't that mean that the car had apprciated at the time of sale?

But from that price the second they drove off the lot that car depreciated.

Quit being vague. If you have one, throw it out there. Remember what the question was though.
Because someone paid more for a car than sticker, does not mean it appreciated. That was probably caused by supply and demand and has nothing to do with value appreciation. Now if production is cut short on something very popular, that may cause it to apprecite in value. The Shelby's will be in a supply and demand situation when introduced, just like the Ford GT was. I understand some people paid over $250k for the GT. You can now get it at sticker (or close to it).

By your logic, the 08 Shelby.{if it is made} is going to be the best deal. less or no dealer markup. I saw a red 05 Gt convert 5-speed going for 10 over sticker at monticello ford last spring. I don't know if they got it. The first one in town. It is a possible preview of the Shelby markup.

Most dealers so far are talking at least $10K markup from what I have heard and read on other forums.

Shawn, I am not sure what 400rwhp Cobra's you can hang with, but it would have never even come close to mine. With just a CAI and cat-back, it went 12.52 @114.78 on stock F1 radials. This was the first day I ever took it to the track. Next week I came back with nittos and went 12.24 @ 115.5. With those mods, that's about 400rwhp.
Anyway, I suggest selling the Mach. Take the equity from that to put down on an already modified Cobra with pullies and stuff. Bang, mid 11 sec car with 500+ ft/lbs for the same monthly payment as you have now. That's a no brainer IMHO.
DNeinstadt
02-23-2006, 01:33 PM
Tony, Shawn has run a 12.6 or 12.7 with his car NA. That's pretty close to 400rwhp Cobra territory.

Yup, I've seen Shawn's car go, and it goes damn good for the mods too. If we had ever tangled frum roll on a street when I was at 400rwhp, it wouldn't have even been close...that's all I was pointing out.
But I digress...I still think you should get the cobra! :)

grenade, if your cars running 12.69s its not going to kick my z06's ass anyday. i thought it was a better handling and faster car than the cobra. i know, i can pulley and retune and be faster, but i drive em everyday in the summer and didn't want the hassle. also, after the first 35 cars i've owned being fords, i thought i would at least test drive one. then i was hooked.

And I don't regret getting my Cobra one bit. I now have the best of both worlds. A great motor, and a solid to launch it. I'm just begining, and I'm already at the hp level, that my old Mach 1 would have to be tuned perfect, to survive.

Actually they do sometimes. I beat a vette at the track with the mach 3/3 times, could be four, he had a 94 Vette 6-speed, with a paxton. I ran a best of 12.69@109. his best was a 12.9@108. His car is gold, and the licence is badpenny. He's also a chevy jerk, so I was glad to beat him. he went to the track with us last year, to show us slow mustang guys, how it's done. He never raced the other Mustang in the group, that was 3-4 tenths faster than me. The vette guy just left at about 11:30 on a perfect test day. Didn't even congradulate me, or say nice car. Typical a hole chevy owner. seriously the guy is a d**k. Sorry had to vent. Great memory though.

It's actually copper colored, thus the Penny.
