Ford is suspending production of its Special Vehicle Team (SVT) model lineup for the 2005 model year, The Detroit News reported.
Although there will be no 2005 versions of the SVT Focus, Mustang Cobra and F-150 Lightning, an SVT lineup will return in 2006 based on new platforms and with increased levels of performance, the story said.
Among the 2006 SVT models will be an F-150 Lightning powered by an engine similar to the one in the 500-horsepower Ford GT, the News said, citing John Coletti, SVT's chief engineer.
Other possibilities include supercharged versions of the Mercury Marauder and Lincoln Navigator, a Mustang with a V-10 and a turbocharged Focus.
In 2005, Ford plans to introduce the Focus ST — which stands for street tuned — with less horsepower than the SVT Focus (155 versus 170) but with more torque and a lower price.
