Sure as hell looks like a Mystichrome. Just for knowledge's sake, the MSRP is 38,800. That's what I ended up paying. I'd find out if it was USED or NEW. Nonetheless.... good deal!

It is law that they have to sell it for that price ($28K) if it was advertised as that. You should go and demand that price. I guess it happens all the time. Then the delear recoups the cost by sueing the advertising company.

It'll be used. Metropolitan is not a cert dealer of SVT cars. They can only sell used SVT's out of that location.

I am not a lawyer, but I have watched enough Peoples Court and Judge Judy to know that the dealership has no obligation to sell the car for $28k just because that is what a classified ad shows. Typos are not legally enforceable. No contract has been entered into. Both the seller and the buyer have to agree on a price either on paper or verbally before a contract exists. Once that happens, you have something that is legally enforceable.

A classified ad is simply an offer to sell, and the offer can change at anytime. At best it could be called false advertising, but even that is a stretch unless it can be proved that the it was done intentionally to mislead.

As long as the ad was done in "good faith", it is simply a mistake.

Target may honor a $1.50 typo in the Sunday ads to keep its customers happy, but a car dealer is not going to lose 10k over a typo in a classified section and if the Star Tribune was held accountable for every mistake in the classified's, it would be "out of print" in no time at all.

This ends today's Legal Lesson

Ok here's the scoop - They bought it at an auction. The car is from California and the owner of the dealership drove it. The sale price in the window is $39,999! Talked with Greg Gilbertson, real nice guy but he said the car had like 70K on it! I should've checked, because I don't think it's possible to put that many miles on an 04 Cobra (even in Cali). Called back to verify the mileage and was told it's like 74 miles. Paint is perfect (no rock chips in fornt) and tires are F1's like new. Warranty buy back maybe? Repo?

I will say that I have run into a few guys that have bought cars from metropolitan and have found out the cars have been through the ringer and have had some things fixed. Can someone find the guy that had his wrecked recently and get the VIN? Just a heads up, it could be legit but it may also be a rebuilder.

Was originally sold buy Diablo Lincoln Mercury(Concord,CA) on 6/1/04 with 585 miles  the only service that has been done is Pre Delivery Inspection and that was on 4/24/04 but it says the car had 5 miles. The car was born on 1/14/04 (I think thats the 1st day plant was back in operation after Christmas Break) IMO thats a good thing, the guys/gals were all fresh and rested and prolly wouldnt be cutting corners. Thats all Oasis shows, somebody might try a carfax if they think its fishy.

Metro shows 77 miles but sale mileage is listed as 586. Hmmm something smells.

Hey guys -

Anybody recall that story about the guy with the Mystichrome that got the whole front torn off by a Honda. Wasn't that a CA car?

Could it have been totalled by the Insurance Company and shipped East? Maybe to a state that didn't require reporting the repair or maybe the system hasn't caught up with the car?

Just speculating, but this is a funny smelling deal, and the dog just don't hunt.

I recall the story, but wouldn't the Oasis show that it had been in fo repairs?

Rick,

Not necessarily - getting stuff into the register takes some time. Depending on the how/when of this whole thing - It's just possible that everything is not as it seems here.

I'm especially intrigued by the issue Tommy pointed out about the discrepancy in the mileage - 586 at first sale vs. 77 now. Unless somebody drove a hell of long way in reverse!!!!!!!

Oasis is only Fords system and shows work that Ford has done. If you want to see how many times and what states the vehicle has been registered in, you need a Carfax. Carfax also shows any insurance claims and gives a discription and amount of $$ on the claims.

There is no obligation to sell at the posted price, legally the price listed is just considered "an offer to bargin". Some businesses will sell items they mispriced for that price but they are in no way required to do so. If that was true I'd be drivin' the Mach 1 with 4200miles they listed for $20k.

Copy and paste the whole thing. There should be a lot more info than just delivery dates. It is peculiar that it was sent to the west coast to sell. Seems like all the Metropolitan cars come from there. Most of them have "factory buy backs" on them.

Rick -

Don't you dare let go of that red vert without calling me first!!!!!

I don't know if you're serious, but my guess is that given the difference in value between your red one and mine - I could talk my wife into the wisdom or trading-up to that red jewel.
