View Full Version : August 13/14th - Cedar Falls GM vs. Ford

DNeinstadt

This is the rescheduling of the SVT vs. Vette's drag day planned earlier in the year. The date is August 14th. The night before is night racing and if there is enough interest, we could go Friday night. Cedar Falls is about a 3 hour drive from the cities.

I have been working with Gino over at the Modern Muscle of MN club and we have decided to do a joint effort to be a GM vs. Ford shootout at Cedar Falls, IA.

Basically the following conditions apply:

Test N Tune day - means we have to share the track with the hardcore guys. BUT we get our own trophies and our own lanes and our own pit area.

The event is for PERFORMANCE VEHICLES ONLY. This means no Pontiac Azteks ripping off 22 second quarter miles. THIS DOES NOT MEAN V8 or RWD vehicles only. An SVT Focus or a Taurus SHO is a good candidate. But only if they live their lives a quarter mile at a time.

The cost will be around $20. Plans are in the works for possible discounts, but plan for around $20 for track entry. Lodging is cheap in that area. Nearby hotels are as follows (prices were for May, may be slightly different now):

IN Cedar Falls:
Days Inn
4117 University Ave
319-277-6931
$45.99 single (1 king) / $49.99 double (2 queen)

Holiday Inn
5827 University Ave
319-277-2230
$99 1 King or 2 Doubles

Waverly , IA:
Amerihost Inn
404 29th Ave SW
319-352-0399
$79 2 double beds

Super 8 Motel
301 13th Ave SW
319-352-0888
$59.88 1 king or 2 queen (Fri only)

Red Fox Inn
1900 Heritage Way
319-352-5330

I will contact the 'vette guys to see if they are as bad of drivers here as they were during Go karting...

Flyers are made, they will be posted soon. We (Gino and I) are both going to be at Car Craft passing them out.

Track is aware of us coming and should be able to get trophies for the clubs.

Probably going to be bracket racing style. Which is great for beginners (PAM?!) and those learning to drive stick shift (DIRTY!).

Feedback? Who's in? Cost is $20.

Aww gee, you drive a hard bargain there! I will give it some thought, Dan you'll be my instructor?? Gotta see where that Sat. puts my training runs for the Twin Cities Marathon. The Gingerman event falls perfect, two weeks out, at that point I'm all done with our 20 milers.

Sweet, SVT is going to be well represented.

Dan, I know it was discussed in the Vette Vs SVT thread but you must be a SVTOA-TC Member to participate on the Ford side, correct ? I was going to make a post on a few of the Lightning boards but didnt know what the case was. I know the Quad Cities has a very high concentration on Lightnings.

Not needed to be a member to participate (just for fun drag race) but to COMPETE for the trophy yes, you must be a paid member of MMM or SVTOATC.

Hello Everyone! I am new to this forum. I am from the Mason City, Iowa area. I was wondering more about the trip your going to be taking to Cedar Falls, Iowa! I would be interested in meeting up with you fellow mustang owners. I have a 04 Mach 1. Any information and help would be awesome! I have been to Cedar Falls before just not the drag strip, but do know where that is also. Thanks for the help! Keep me up to date please!

Corey, First off, welcome. There are a few Mach1 owners on the site and there will be more than one of them at the strip next weekend!

If you like, you can PM me your phone # and I can call you when we get to town as a caravan. Then you can hitch up with us and ride along to the track!

Stay awhile and check out the forums!

Jon what do you drive? Im guessing a Lightning by your picture in signature, but not sure. I am pretty sure that you take I-35W South, and then take the Mason City/Charles City exit and drive on the Avenue of the Saints. So you would go by Clear Lake. I dont think I would make it Friday, I have to work till 230 or 330. So I would probably come down Sat, but would be nice if I could meet someone to caravan with on Sat.

I will talk to Dan some more and see what time he is leaving. I am going to try to find some more people from around here to go.
I will keep in touch with both of you

My cousin-in-law (who owns a Viper) lives in Clear Lake. I might be able to stay at his place Fri nite and cruise over with the Iowa gang Sat. AM. Also, I realize the Viper would not be eligible to compete for the trophy, but would it be cool to invite him to bring the Viper along just for fun?

Can't wait for the :shiftin:,

Sorry for the delay, but I just heard back from my cousin. I do plan on hooking up with y'all at Clear Lake Sat AM. Unfortunately, Lyle is on call this weekend, and thus cannot bring his red Viper. I think it's an '02. I know it's the last year before the current grill design.
