Looking for some feedback...

What are your thoughts on having a NHRA-approved 6pt cage welded my 04 Cobra 'vert. Should I or shouldn't I. I'd like to join the club on the 1/4 mile trips next year, but there's the 13.99 rule for convertibles.

Anyone know a good fabricator who could build a well-fit and NHRA legal rollbar?

I might just have to buy a older coupe and build it up.

I know it's dangerous to ask for opinions, but here's your chance.

I do know that Cedar Falls, IA is very lenient on the rules and will likely not cause you any trouble. :)

I know they changed it cause of the Cobra and other fast production street cars. I am looking up the info right now.

I think dave is right cause none of the new cobras could run then. However I ran a 13.8 when the rule was 13.99 and they still let me run even without a helmet. (I didnt have one on and the guy laughed and said you dont have to worry your not nearly fast enough)

ok, found it, they lowered it to a 13.49 for verts. and 11.99 for coupes.

a couple years ago, a buddy of mine was running 10.80's yanking the wheels off the ground with no more than lap belts. He ran all day in IA until he blew it up.

The catch here is NHRA. Run at an NHRA event and most tracks and you are gone. The track can set its own rules if it is a non-sanctioned event. Cedar Falls is currently pretty lax, and many of us are running under the NHRA approved times.
Roll cage is a great idea, if you don't mind the looks of it in a vert. They also take away space in an already limited cabin.

Cedar Falls might be lax about the rules, but my wife isn't. Guess I should be glad that she wants me to be safe. :) She still loves me more than the insurance money. But if I roll my Cobra and I survive the crash, I will definitely have some answering to do at home. :bouquet:

I'm not sure having a rollcage isn't a bad thing on the highways at times as well, but I refuse to wear a helmet on 35W.

As for the back seat, it would be deleted. My kids don't like sitting back there anyway -- too windy :violin:

I agree with Rick. You cant go wrong with a cage but with the limited space and the fact that it would look (in my opinion) funky, If your looking for that kind of speed Id get an older model and play more with that.

They do make ones with bolt in side bars that you can only use at the track. I do know that if you plan on doing ANY road racing, you will need a cage.

How will a roll cage help him plant?

I think he saying the cage would stiffen the frame side to side almost as a coupes roof would.

crazyfoci is correct putting a cage in a vert DRASTICALLY increase your traction because it is then able to keep the body of the car from torqueing.

ok, the rollcage seems like a good idea. Anyone know someone that has built a few good ones?

I think Steeda may have a kit but I would still need an experienced welder who can do clean welds and won't burn up the interior. Had a bad experience before with holes in upholstery.

I would talk to the guys at DB performance. I have heard good things.

Haven't called DB but TNT in Blaine wants 1700 for a custom 6 point cage Then I need to paint or powdercoat it.

Just got an email back from Maximum Motorsports. Should have a rollbar for the 2004s in the next few weeks. At about $400.00 that's a lot better than a custom build. Will just need to find a skilled welder, should I go through with it.

Only way I would put one in a vert is if I wanted to have a race car.

Long live Jake :rockit: . The question Brother,is this what you want to do. If it is then go for it. Remember our rides are or own, extensions of ourselves if you will.
