Replace your fluid in your tranny with GM Synchromesh, and get the TSB too. :)

Tremec 3650's were known to have a 1-2 clash. These are the same trannies used in the late '01 Cobra years and all Mustangs newer. Including Mach1's.

The fix is to put in a different amount of fluid and while you're draining it, might as well put in GM synchromesh. :)

Pretty easy actually, I can help ya with it if you need!

Rick,

Now I'm really confused. As Dan noted, there have been shift complaints related to the 3650 from its introduction in the 2001 model year (All 2001 Cobras have them).

One part of a fix is to fill the tranny with GM Synchromesh and lower the fill level from 3.8 QTS to 3.2 QTS. This helps, or in some cases, solves the problem.

Ford and Tremec have been talking about a TSB for a permanent fix for over a year. Most talk centered around some synchro upgrades. As of two weeks ago, no one had seen the referenced TSB.

Now this new thing referenced in the thread - It appears that Ford is saying that the clutch pedal, cable quadrant, and the geometry of the clutch mechanism is all or part of the problem and seems to have issued a TSB related to that. I don't know if this is the magic "3650" TSB or not.

I'll do some more research and let you know what I find out.

Dave

BTW - the grinding or 1-2 shift problem referenced here is more predominant in cold weather or when the tranny is cold at start-up.

The clutch and quadrant don't have anything to do with the clashing of gears. Well, they do, but not a whole lot. I don't thin this is the magic 3650 TSB. It might be HELPFUL but there is probably an updated fluid level for tech's to use. 3.2 or 3027mL of ATF will help, no matter what kind it is, but I'm going to pick up some GM Synchromesh for my car SOON.
