I have done it using a machine that flushes it similar to a shop. Never done it manually or using the Prestone kit and garden hose way. I know they sell the Prestone kit at Checker, Napa, and Fleet Farm. I've never looked at them, but I would imagine that it wouldn't be too difficult.

It breaks down over time, the heating/cooling process, and collecting debris from it's path throughout the engine. I flush every two years on all our vehicles and have never had a problem cooling/heating problem.

FYI - my dad has never done it to any vehicle he's ever owned and never had a problem.

I wouldn't bother on a newer (1999+) car... but that's just me. Spend the $ on GO FAST!!

i dont know. Im assuming it gets old or dirty? I guess a flush wouldnt hurt?A flush is definatly a good idea with typical coolant. As it ages it breaks down and becomes acidic and it will eat away at gaskets and such. Not to mention its a good idea to just flush it to get any corrosion etc out.

As for doing it yourself, burping the 4v cooling systems can be a pain, they need to be filled from the coolant crossover tube and I would think a typical "home flush" may leave little to be desired, not to mention the legality of letting your coolant run down the street.
