Hey guys,
Here is a event that I am putting together that I was hoping some of you would be interested in coming to. The dates are Sept 18-19 and it's at Gingerman raceway in south haven Mich.

This is put on by SCMC (SVT Cobra Mustang Club), of which I am the midwest rep. There will mainly be Cobra's there, but it is open to all (even vette's).

The track is open from 5 till dark on friday evening, for I believe something around $70. The event it's self costs $130/day which does include an instructor and classroom sessions if desired.

Gingerman is a safe track. For me, I put the car in 3rd gear when I enter the track and take it out of third when I exit the track. A person can really concentrate on driving rather than shifting.

More info can be found at www.svtcobraclub.com

registration form can be downloaded here: http://www.svtcobraclub.com/indexfi...%20Form2004.pdf

Dan,
I will be matching drivers to instructors myself for this event. We have a few engineers from ford that I bet you would enjoy having as an instructor.

Where Gingerman Raceway South Haven,MI. (549 Miles from American Ford)
When Sept 18th & 19th
Cost $130 per day (This includes intructor, track time and a catered lunch)

Brian Groth (Cobra R) has invited us to attend this event that is put on by the SVT Cobra Mustang Club. For those who dont know Brian is a very avid road racer and he will be organizing this event. Gingerman is a somewhat technical course with elevation changes. If you are interested in this event please post any questions you have in this thread. Brian will answer any questions or he will get us the answers.

A resgistration form can be downloaded at http://www.svtcobraclub.com/indexfiles/SCMC%20Gingerman%20Entry%20Form2004.pdf

Event information pack can be found at http://www.svtcobraclub.com/indexfiles/04_Gingerman_infopacket.pdf

Event Schedule can be found at http://www.svtcobraclub.com/indexfiles/04_Gingerman_schedulet.pdf

We had a total of 8 vehicles go to the Mid America event in May. I would personally like to see us beat that number by at least 8 other cars. I myself will be camping at the track. The Track does have shower facilities and I believe the cost is $10 for the weekend. For Hotels, I suggest Joseph City,MI.
It appears to be the biggest City that is closest to the track. (Its around 25 miles south of the racetrack) Otherwise Kalamazo0 MI is around 65 Miles South East of the track. We all live on different budgets so its going to be best if we each find our own accomodations.

Twitch, Take a vacation. The Foci handle really well and if you can drive, you might beat a Cobra or Lightning.

The closest town is South Haven, Mi. There are some nice newer hotels located there. I wana say south haven is about 5 miles from the track.

PS: I am camping at the track as well.

Just recieved a Dodge SRT 10 registration today, as well as a Viper. I have a friend coming from Colorado (Kevin) that will have a real 64 shelby on the track. This is not a factory 5 kit car or anything like that, it's the real deal.

The list of cars/people signed up can be found here: http://www.svtcobraclub.com/forums/showthread.php?p=121736#post121736 I have been keeping it up to date as I recieve the registrations.

Brian

PS: Doug, I will probly make this event, so get your form filled out. ;)

Pam brought up a point in a PM that I wanted to address here.

In the registration materials for Gingerman, there is a form you are suppose to have filled out by a mechanic certifying that your car/truck is safe and has been checked out.

If you are not mechanically inclined, you can either bring it to a mechanic, or bring the car to a svtoa meeting and if tommy will allow us access to the shop, I can check the car out for you. There is no need to spend $$ having the car checked out, just bring your form with and post that you want your car checked out and we will take care of it.

Friday the track is only open from 4 or 5 pm till dark. I am not sure on the cost, I am going to Gingerman in two weeks and plan on running friday evening as well, so I should have more of an idea then. I don't believe it costs that much to run friday though.

I plan on leaving early friday am, probly around 5 or 6 am, we loose an hour going into Michigan and I wana be there in time to run that evening. If we had enough people that wanted to leave thursday evening, I would be fine with ammending my plans to conform.

Thanks Brian, if we dont race until late Friday afternoon, I will leave early Friday AM.

BTW- Where is everybody planning on staying ? I called earlier this afternoon and most places are between $100-$150. The Lighthouse and Econolodge are around $90 but they didnt look like the cleanest of places if you know what I mean. Since my GF is going, Im forced to get a hotel. She is like Dan, scared of bears wolves and the bugs.

Just a question that might be going through some people's heads:

What do all the "newer" cars (2000+) need for "approval"?

Well people, I am going to back out of this event. I know it would be fun to be there with all of you again, plus the newcomers, but I just can't justify the 9 hour drive to get there. You all have fun and be safe! - Todd

Dan,
Nothin special really, the general idea is just to have a safe car in good mechanical condition. About the same as you would need at a drag strip.

Thats fine, but it will cost more and I will not be able to guarentee you an instructor. A catered meal is included in the costs, I need a head count to set that up as well. So, in other words, you can do it but you will be making it more difficult for us, and expensive for you.

Is this for spectators also, or will we have to fend for ourselves?

Spectators are free to come to the event much like it was at MAM, but only one lunch is included(in the registration cost) for each registered driver. In other words, dan gets his meal included, you will need to pay to eat as well. The cost will probly be in the $7.00 range. It is a very good meal, I ate three of them this weekend and it was great.

Passengers will be allowed at this event once you are signed off from an instructor. (except in verts without rollbars) So, bring extra helmets if ya wana do some riding.

Brian

PS: FYI: We camped at Gingerman this weekend, they charged us $5 per night, per person. They also have sites with electricity that cost $20/nite. (thats what I heard, I did not confirm it)

They just redid thier showers, they are very nice and are included in the $5/ nite camping fee.

Just a heads up to anyone planning on coming. At this point i have 4 available instructors not spoken for, so if you plan on coming and want a instructor, register very soon.

I am going to attempt to come up with more instructors, but at this late time I am not sure I am going to be sucessful.

As far as I know, it won't be a GT or a 05 Mustang, just in case thats what you were thinking.

These people that are coming are the people that you talk to when you call the SVT 800 number, they are pretty cool guys.........and if you get a few beers in them, you can sometimes get a little info out of them. ;)
