Just found this place listed on SVTPerformance.com (http://www.svtperformance.com) and thought I'd sign up. Wanted to post and introduce myself. I'm Ben, I live in Maplewood and I drive a '93 "Deep Emerald Green" SHO. Right now I'm in the market for a '97-'01 Cobra with low miles. I'd love to meet up with ya guys sometime. Anyone have any knowledge of rebuildin' the tranny on a '82 Mustang? The transmission may not be the original as the car has seen everything from the original 302 to a 429 to the current 351W. We just can't seem to get the cover off the top of the tranny. Seems the shift linkage is keepin' it from comming off and we need to replace the plug on the bottom 1/2 of the rear of the tranny. I gotta work on my day off tomarrow after doin' a 15 hour shift today and then I'm doin' both my inner and outer tie rods tomarrow too. Big fun. I'm outta here. :scram:

Welcome Ben! I'm a Mustang guy, I might be able to help you figure out your tranny. Do you know if it's a C6 or a C4? Or is it a Manual? Give me some more details and I can try to help ya out!

You should attend our cruise this Saturday and our meeting next Saturday and introduce yourself!

It's a 5 speed manual. Unfortunatley I can't make it to the Saturday meetings cause I work every Saturday from 2:30pm - 11pm. Right now I'm lookin' for a new job so if you know anything in the e-commerce industry or tech support, lemme know. Thanks for any help you can gimme with the tranny issue.

5 speed for a Windsor (289/302/351w) could be a T5 or a Tremec TKO or even a 3550. All depends on which it is. But I'd suspect a T5 is the easier one to find. We could check online for specs for it and see what we can find.

See the problem is that we don't know for sure if it was the tranny that came with the 351W. It could be the original one from the 302. Who knows. This car has seen so many engines and has all kinds of mods. Right now the interior is stripped to the sheet metal and covered only with a layer of Dynomat Light. He just installed a new 10.5" Centerforce Dual Friction. Big problem we ran into with that was first that the flywheel didn't fit the bolt pattern of the new clutch then when we got a new flywheel, the bolts that came with it didn't fit. We had to look everywhere for 8.5mm hardened bolts. What kinda foreign crap is that? Where would the transmission model be marked on it?

Can you find any casting #'s on the tranny itself? The flywheel is different between the 302 and 351w, they have different weights I think.

A T5 will fit a 302 or a 351 but need to be built up before hand otherwise they make a big pile of junk. :)

Try to find casting #'s or something?
