View Full Version : Porsche engineered Contour intake?

I just read on contour.org that Porsche engineered the contour 2.5L intake but the design wasnt used due to packaging issues. Has anyone seen pictures of the Porsche designed intake?? I just spent the better half of an hour looking for it with no luck.

Yup I heard that a while back also. Apperently its true. I remember seeing the porsche version and it looks exactly like ours.

:) Everyone uses that style of intake on high-performance V6's now-a-days. Hell even during yester-days.... the SHO intake is of a very similiar design, along with the NISMO and 'Yota performacne V6's...
I swear to god, people would be impressed if I put a Porsche badge on a bag of Poo...

Actually i believe the 2.5L was a design between ford/porsch/cosworth. It was designed to make some crazy power like 250hp's but then wasnt able to fit the engine bay properly so they had to hack the design off a few inches to shorten it enoguh to fit the engine bay.
I dont remember the exact details but I recall reading about it over on CEG. I think Terry Haines, who was in on the design of the Contour program, knows a lot more about it. From what i've gathered the original V6 for the contour was 3.0L but they had to modify it to fit. Which of course Ford did and messed it up also losing power output and from what I understand gives reason to alot of the engine issues. I think they designed the engine befiore the car or atleast the two teams werent communicating the specifications of the engine:enginebay.

Yea Terry actually shot me an email the other day telling me about it. I plan on emailing him back to see if I can get some more details on it.

:) SRT-4 > SVT-****us anyday of the week.
I appreciate superiour engineering, it's sad that in the small-car world it has to come in the form of a Dodge Neon.
SRT-4: $19k, goes 13.9's
SVT: $18.5k, goes 15.XX's :violin:
Is this decision process difficult for you to comprehend? ;)

*SUPERCHARGED* Focus SVT, Biznatch.
Just promise me you won't go 1 notch below Dodge to a Scion.

Not to say anything bad about srt-4's BUT, A former stang owner thought he would be cool and buy a brand new srt-4. he upgraded the exhaust, and some other minor tweak. some stage 1 or 2 or something. He knew my car ran a 13.43 bone stock. So he figured he was running faster than that. When you go to the track you have to hook up. I brought tires, he had stockers. His best time was a 14.0, me 12.7 do the math 8>4. I also had a 7mph advantage. Yes N/A. I should have raced him in my Sho, it would be closer. best G-tech time 14.68@95

I hated driving that SRT-4, I dont like the look of the focus only becuase I dont like hatchbacks, but damn they can fly if you get into a little modding

Well considering I bought the Dodge, I don't think a Scion is in my future. I bought the fastest car I could afford, a hair under $20G's for a 13-second car with a 7 year warranty seemed like a really good idea. How's the warranty on that SVT-Focus with the blower? In fact, how does a total 200 horsepower for an additional $3,000 feel? :) Nothing like voiding a warranty to try to keep up...
I would have no problem racing your Supercharged Four-banger with EITHER of my Turbocharged ones. Hell, I'll even race you with my SOHC four-banger (assuming I get the car put back together first... LOL!)

"Not to say anything bad about the SRT-4's, but I'm going to implicate they're ****ty." Nice try.
With exhaust, boost, some intake re-piping, and a chip, the SRT-4's will run 12's. With some "exhaust work" they'll maybe run a mid-13 on stock rubber. That's with a good driver that knows what they're doing. If this "former mustang" driver/owner is used to driving that type of car then they will be sorely disappointed. Turbo-4's drive NOTHING like a V8. You have to launch them different be willing to shift them differently and they have an all around different feel to them.
When you go to the track you have to hook up. I brought tires, he had stockers.
Yes, very good, principle of racing #2: You must put power to the ground. :) Of course doing this with a Mustang and a V8 is the easiest thing to do... so let's trash talk the Neon.
The Stock SRT-4 tyres also BLOW-ASS for straight-line hook. How do I know? Oh, that's right, I own one. To see any sort of impressive numbers those suckers need to hit the trash bin and you'll want to have some slicks or at least a sticky street tyre. The stock-rubber is very entertaining in the corners however.
His best time was a 14.0, me 12.7 do the math 8>4.
Dumbest quote ever. Three reasons:
1) Doesn't account for the drivers
2) Doesn't account for the vehicles making different levels of power. A Mach 1 or N/A Cobra is still in the high-200 horsepower levels. A lightly moded (Stage I) or 2004 SRT-4 is still only 240-250 horsepower at best.
3) There are many, many, 4-bangers running faster than 12.7. Some of them do it for very little cost and on such ****ty street tyres they'd embarass you. A few I can think of are the AWD/DSM's, some old-school SVO's are doing that without question, hell some of the guys hot-rodding TurboCoupe's can run them into the 12's on the stock turbo with enough suspension work.
BONUJS! 4) Hell you're not even telling whether it's an '03 or 04/05 there are MAJOR differences. The 03 is a one-wheel wonder with lessd power than the 04/05.
I also had a 7mph advantage. Yes N/A. I should have raced him in my Sho, it would be closer. best G-tech time 14.68@95
I have own three SHO's. Not a ****ing one of them could even keep pace with my SRT-4. :) The only one that would have been a close contest was my Supercharged-91, and that was never tracked but regularly put the hurt on mid-13 second cars.
Go about your day...

Straight line, that's one thing. Twisty-turny track, that is a whole different ball game. I know a guy who can out-run just about anyone in his vintage minicooper that barely pushes 90 HP! I have an SVTC, so when it comes to putting brute HP to the pavement (stock) I am lacking...but IMO the SRT-4 comparing itself to a SVTF is like truly comparing an SVTC to a BMW M3. If you put it up against other turbo 4's then it doesn't hold it's own!! Unless you compare it to the Mazdaspeed Protege. For the money, the SRT-4 is alot of bang for the buck, no doubt...but remember to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges b-4 we stick bananas in our mouths.

I forget what magazine did it... but I think it might have been Sport Compact. They compared the SRT-4, SVT Focus, Lancer, Celica GTS, and a few others. The SRT-4 had unbeatable 0-60 time and the most brute horsepower, but it lacked in everything else and I do mean everything. It fell flat on its face in handling I think it score something like a 5 out of a possible 30. I believe it placed like 4th or 5th in the 10 cars they compared. The SVT Focus had great all around scores in all the categories, but wasn't the best. It placed 3rd on the list. The number one car with the best bang for the buck came out to be the Celica GTS. My brother has the magazine somwhere, but I read the article about a year ago.

Never was a Honda guy, it's not red, and I'm pretty sure you hvae noidea who I am... otherwise you wouldn't call me "Little Duck" as "Ducky" is my nickname and "Little" is my last name... and I am certianly far from a "Kid."

And no, I don't "hang" with the SRT-4 guys. I have an SRT-4 as a cheap fast daily driver. It's actually the slowest car in my stable.
