I have just finalized the Great Lakes Region track schedule for 2005 and would like to share it with you guys.

May 21-22 - SVTOA On-Track at the Autobahn Country Club. Joliet, IL - Official National On-Track Event. This event will contain a car show in addition to the open track event. We are also going to hold the National Cobra R meet at this event and expect us to break the record of 17 Cobra R's that we had at this years Gingerman Event. Don't make me a lier!!!

July 23-24 - SVT Days at Gingerman, South Haven, MI- Regional track event sponsored by the Southeast Michigan SVTOA Chapter. We sold this event out last year and based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback we should be doing it again next year.

August 19th - Woodward Dream Cruise open track day - This is an event geared towards those with little to no track experience. There are sound restrictions in place at this track that make any car with an open exhaust illegal. This will be part of the Woodward Dream Cruise weekend.

August 27-28 - Putman Park, Mount Meridian, IN - We have FINALLY got a Putman Date!!!! This will be replacing the early Oct IRP date. Putman is a MUCH better track and is a great addition to our Region On-Track Schedule.

I'm excited with this schedule and hope that you guys are as well. It's a nicely spaced schedule at some GREAT tracks. If next years events go as well as the events did in 2004 expect to see us grow even bigger for 2006!

We will be running a promotion called the "Track Dawg Challenge" in 2005. Anyone who attends three of the 4 Regional Track events in 2005 will get an official Great Lakes Region " Track Dawg" shirt along with a decal for your vehicle AND will be entered into a drawing to get your track fee's refunded for the 2005 Great Lakes Region SVTOA Open track events that you attend. Eligible participants MUST be National SVTOA members and MUST attend and pay for at least 3 of the 4 events. The winner will be determined at Putman Park and must be present to win. We've been looking at a fun way to reward our dedicated Track Dawgs and I think that this is a good start.

The Woodward dream cruise is a must do for me even if I don't road track the Mystic, I would love to be apart of such a nostalgic event. Just seeing the different pictures and such in the Detroit Airport was all I needed to know that is where I wanted to be...

Mark can you give me anymore info on the cruise itself ? I have never done this before so I need to know as much as possible.

Here is an update that might effect some of you planning on attending SVTOA events this year:

2005 SVTOA On Trach Schedule! New convertible rule, too.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++
2005 Schedule

April 22-25, Sebring International Raceway, Sebring, FL

May 13-15, Summit Point Raceway (Shenandoah Circuit), Summit Point, WV

May 20-22, Autobahn Country Club, Joliet, IL

June 10-12, Pikes Peak International Raceway, Colorado Springs, CO

June 24-26, Texas World Speedway, College Station, TX

August 5-7, Shannonville Motorsports Park, Shannonville, Ontario, Canada

September 23-25, Nashville Superspeedway, Nashville, TN

November 4-6, Buttonwillow Raceway Park, Buttonwillow, CA

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Convertibles
All convertible vehicles MUST have a properly manufactured and installed roll bar or roll over protection device to participate in SVTOA On Track events (not including controlled-speed "parade lap" sessions).

* The windshield alone IS NOT considered to be factory roll over protection.
* "Style bars" and "light bars" ARE NOT considered roll bars or roll over protection.

Roll Bars / Roll Over Protection
If a car does not have factory installed roll over protection, a properly manufactured and installed roll bar must be used. Once installed, the driver's helmeted head MUST be below a bar placed on top of the roll bar / roll over protection device and the top of the windshield, i.e., the "broomstick" rule. Roll bar padding is very strongly recommended.

Roll Bars / Roll Over Protection must be;
1) Purchased from an approved vendor (Autopower) and properly installed (following manufacturer installation guidelines - bolt-in or weld-in).
2) Custom manufactured from a minimum of 1.75" x .120 ERW or DOM tubing and properly installed - bolt-in or weld-in.
3) All roll bars / roll over protection devices must have a minimum of four (4) attachment points.

Additionally,
* ALL convertibles must run with soft tops in up/closed position, regardless of factory-installed or owner-installed roll over protection.
* Any make of car delivered with factory-installed roll over protection meets the minimum standards for SVTOA On Track events. In these cars, the soft-top must be run in the up position or a factory-supplied hard top installed.
* All sunroofs and t-tops must be run in the closed position.
* All targa tops must be run in the closed position.
* Approval of all roll bars / roll over protection devises are subject to the Lead Tech Inspector and/or Lead Instructor.
* A convertible with a race sanctioning body (e.g., SCCA, NASA, etc) APPROVED roll cage may be allowed to participate without use of a soft top or hardtop ONLY with approval of the Lead Tech Inspector and/or Lead Instructor.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Brian

PS: The schedule I attached is the National SVTOA event schedule, Marks at the top of this post is our regions schedule.

Is the PPIR event a SVTOA event???

I'm very intersted in this one as my brother lives in the Springs and I ran it last year.

Yes, it's a SVTOA national event. Same event you went to last year.

I'm interested! How about you Dan N.? and Jackie? This would be fun and not as far as Gingerman. (I'm still planning on that one too).

Brian, are other car manufacturers allowed? My cousin with his '05 Corvette.

Thanks!

I assume you are referring to the Autobauhn event in Joliet Il. since it's the only event closer than Gingerman?

That will be a fun event, it's going to be the national Cobra R meet as well. Like Mark mentioned in his post, we had 17 R's last year and are hoping for more this year. There is also a American V8 supercar race being held that weekend, so you get to drive and watch races. There are a few Cobra R's that are planning on racing as well. (You guys might even know some of them ;) )

There won't be as much tracktime at this event as there was at the SCMC event you guys attended last year, but it's still fun.

Pam,
The vette question at a SVTOA event should be adressed by Mark. I don't believe they are allowed.

National SVTOA events are restricted to Ford family vehicles only but the Corvette is more than welcome at our other Regional events (Gingerman, Waterford or Putman)

Just to let everyone know our registration has been open for a week and we are already 1/3 full. Once the offical word gets out this event will probably sell out quickly so if your reading this and are interested in attending I'd probably pick up the phone.

Is the WAterford Hills event associated with The Dream Cruise - (Woodard Ave). If so, how many members of SVTOA-TC be interested in going to this.

The Waterford event is the day before the Woodward Dream Cruise. If you love cars you have to go to the Dream Cruise at least once in your life. It's absolutely amazing!
